Add Your Menu to Google Business Profile: Generate a Menu Image in One Click

Before most guests walk through your door, they have already opened your Google Business Profile. They check the hours, flick through the photos, and look for one thing above everything else: the menu. If it is there, clear and current, you are on the shortlist. If it is a blurry snapshot of a laminated card from two summers ago, or missing entirely, they tap the next pin on the map.

The menu is also one of the few things on your profile you fully control. Reviews arrive on their own schedule and photos from guests are whatever they happen to shoot. The menu image is yours. This guide shows how to generate one from the menu you already publish on NEMENU, how to upload it to Google, and when to refresh it.

What Google Business Profile accepts

Google gives food and drink businesses three ways to show a menu. The first is menu photos: images you upload under the Menu tab of your profile's photos, which appear in the Menu section on Maps and Search. The second is a structured menu, where you type each item, price and description into Google's own editor. The third is a menu link, a URL guests can tap to open your menu on the web.

Each has a job. The link is the one that stays live: point it at your NEMENU menu and it always shows today's prices. The structured menu is useful but it is a second copy to maintain by hand, and it goes stale the first time you change a price and forget Google. The image is where a menu shines visually: it appears in the photo carousel, it is what people screenshot and share, and it shows your branding rather than Google's plain list. The strongest profiles use the image for the first impression and the link for the detail.

Generate it in NEMENU

Open /admin/settings/print-menu in your NEMENU admin. This is the same page that prints a paper menu, and below the print controls you will find a panel called Image for Google, with the subtitle Upload these to your Google Business Profile photos. There is nothing to configure: as soon as the page loads, NEMENU renders your published menu into a set of PNG images sized for Google's photo carousel.

Long menus are split across several pages, numbered in order, so nothing is squeezed into an unreadable single image. Each page follows the template and brand colours you have already chosen for your digital menu, which means the image on Google, the QR menu on a guest's phone and the printed card on the table all look like the same restaurant. If you have descriptions switched off in the print controls, they are left off the image as well, and you can pick the language the image is generated in.

On Enterprise accounts with more than one location, the image is generated per venue. Choose the venue at the top of the page and the panel renders that venue's menu, so the beach bar's profile gets the beach bar's cocktails and the restaurant's profile gets the dinner menu, each with its own Google listing.

The panel renders the published menu. If you see the message Couldn't build the menu image, publish your latest changes and reload the page. Menu images are not yet available for right-to-left languages; the printable menu on the same page supports them fully.

Download every page of the set. You will upload them all, in order, in the next step.

Upload it to Google

You need to be signed in to the Google account that manages your business. On desktop, searching for your business name while signed in shows the profile management panel directly in the results; on a phone, the Google Maps app does the same from your business listing.

  • Open your Google Business Profile and choose Edit profile, or search your business name on Google while signed in and use the management panel.
  • Go to Photos.
  • Select the Menu tab. Images uploaded here are labelled as menu photos and appear in the Menu section of your listing, rather than mixed in with interior shots.
  • Upload the NEMENU pages one at a time, in page order, starting with page 1. Google shows the most recently uploaded images first in some views, so if order matters to you, upload the last page first and work backwards.
  • Open Edit profile again, find the Menu link field (in some regions it is under Business information, then Menu), and paste your live menu address: https://yourname.nemenu.app, using your own subdomain.
  • Save, then check the public listing on your phone. Photos usually appear within minutes, though Google can take up to a day to review new images.

The link matters as much as the image. It is the only part of your Google listing that updates itself, because it opens the live menu. When someone taps it, they land on the same page your QR code opens, with the same prices, availability, photos and languages. If you have not set up your free subdomain yet, our guide at /blog/free-subdomain-yourname-nemenu-app walks through it.

When to regenerate

A menu image is a snapshot. Unlike the link, it does not update when you publish a change, so it is worth having a simple rule for when to go back to the panel. Three triggers cover almost everything.

  • A price change. Even a small one, because a guest who finds the bill higher than the photo they saw on Google feels misled, however honest the reason.
  • A seasonal menu. New dishes, a summer drinks list, a Christmas set menu: regenerate on the day the new menu goes live and remove the old pages.
  • New photos or a new brand look. If you changed your template or brand colours in NEMENU, the image will pick that up next time you generate it, and your profile should match.
Make it part of your publish routine. When you publish a menu change in NEMENU, open /admin/settings/print-menu straight afterwards, download the fresh set from the Image for Google panel, and replace the old pages on your profile. It takes two minutes and it means the menu on Google is never older than the menu at the table. Delete the outdated pages rather than leaving them alongside the new ones, so guests do not see two prices for the same dish.

Free vs Pro

You do not need a paid plan to put your menu on Google. On the Free plan, your NEMENU menu lives at your own subdomain and you can paste that address into the Menu link field right now. That alone gives guests a current, tappable menu from your listing, which is more than most restaurants offer.

The generated menu image, along with the printable paper menu on the same page, is a Pro and Enterprise feature. Pro is $8.99 a month and free for the first 60 days, so you can generate and upload your first Google menu image, and print your first paper menus, before deciding whether to keep it. Enterprise adds per-venue generation for groups and hotels with several listings. Full details are at /pricing.

One published menu, three places it shows up: on the phone through your QR code, on Google before the guest arrives, and on paper at the table. The Google image and the printed menu come from the same page and the same source of truth. To set up the paper side, read our companion tutorial: /blog/print-your-digital-menu-pro.
