How to Add the Pinterest Tag to Your Restaurant Menu

When someone searches "birthday dinner ideas" or "Sunday brunch near me" on Pinterest, they're not browsing — they're planning. Pinterest is one of the highest-intent platforms in the social space, especially for food, dessert, brunch, weddings, and event venues. The Pinterest Tag is what turns those Pins into measurable visits to your menu.

What is the Pinterest Tag?

It's a small tracking script you place on your website. Once installed, Pinterest sees every visit and links it back to the Pin or Pinterest Ad that brought the visitor. With that data, Pinterest powers conversion campaigns, retargeting, and lookalike audiences.

Why Pinterest is a great fit for restaurants

  • Highest planning intent. Pinterest users save Pins to plan future activities — dinners, brunches, anniversaries, baby showers — meaning your menu gets in front of buyers, not idle scrollers.
  • Long content lifetime. A Pin keeps driving traffic for months or years; an Instagram post is dead in 48 hours.
  • Visual food discovery. Pinterest is built around imagery — your dessert board, signature cocktails, plated mains, brunch spreads.
  • Strong for events & private dining. People plan rehearsal dinners, baby showers, and corporate events on Pinterest. If you have a private room, you're missing out without the tag.

How to install the Pinterest Tag

Step 1 — Get your Tag ID

Go to ads.pinterest.com → Conversions → Conversion Setup. Click "Create Pinterest Tag" if you don't have one. Pinterest will generate a 13-digit numeric Tag ID — that's all you need.

Step 2 — Paste it into nemenu

Open nemenu admin → Settings → Integrations → Pinterest Tag card. Paste the 13-digit ID and click Save Changes.

Step 3 — Verify it's working

Install the "Pinterest Tag Helper" Chrome extension. Open your public menu, accept cookies, and the helper should show one PageVisit event firing.

Pro tip: claim your nemenu domain inside Pinterest Business (ads.pinterest.com → Settings → Claim). It links every Pin you create that points to your menu back to your account, so analytics roll up properly.

What gets tracked

v1 fires the standard PageVisit event when visitors accept the cookie banner. AddToCart and Checkout are on the roadmap once cart events ship.

Privacy and compliance

Adding the Pinterest Tag makes you the data controller for what Pinterest collects from your visitors. Mention Pinterest Tag in your privacy policy. nemenu auto-shows the cookie banner — pixels only fire after Accept.

TL;DR

  • Generate a Pinterest Tag in ads.pinterest.com → Conversions.
  • Paste the 13-digit ID into nemenu Settings → Integrations.
  • Verify with the Pinterest Tag Helper extension.
  • Now your Pinterest Ads can be measured, optimized, and retargeted.

Already on nemenu? Open Settings → Integrations to add Pinterest. New here? nemenu.app — Pro unlocks Pinterest Tag along with the rest of the Integrations suite.
