One Menu, One Till, One Set of Books: Nefin POS with NEMENU and Nefin

Most venues run three systems that have never met. The menu guests scan lives in one place, the till that rings up the order lives in another, and the accounts live in a spreadsheet or with a bookkeeper who gets a shoebox of Z-reports at the end of the month. Every price change is made twice, and every sale is typed in again later.

Nefin POS closes that loop. It is a free, offline-first point of sale that sells from the same menu you publish on NEMENU, and it posts every sale to Nefin, the bookkeeping app at www.nefin.app. Sell on the till, book on Nefin, and keep one menu for your guests.

What Each Piece Does

AppWhat it isWhat it owns
NEMENU (www.nemenu.app)Your customer-facing QR menuDishes, photos, translations, the menu at yourname.nemenu.app
Nefin POSA free till that works without wifiTables, orders, payments, receipts, shifts
Nefin (www.nefin.app)Double-entry bookkeepingJournals, VAT, bank accounts, staff

You can use the till on its own, with NEMENU only, with Nefin only, or with both. This guide connects both, because that is where the double typing disappears.

Step 1: Bring Your NEMENU Menu to the Till

  • Download Nefin POS from www.nefin.app/downloads and open it.
  • On the welcome screen, pick Connect to Nemenu, then Sign in with Nemenu, and use the email and password of your NEMENU account.
  • The till creates its own access key, loads your business details and pulls your menu: categories, dishes with their descriptions and prices, variants with their price changes, extras, and which dishes are out of stock.
  • Your menu's currency comes across too, so the till charges the same prices guests see on the public menu.

No NEMENU account yet? Create an account on the welcome screen opens the NEMENU signup in your browser. Finish setting up your menu there, then come back to the till and sign in with the same email and password.

Your NEMENU password also unlocks the till's lock screen, and that keeps working when the internet is down.

Step 2: Edit on the Till, Live on Your Menu

Once the till is connected, it becomes the place you manage the menu. Add a dish, change a price, rename a category or adjust an extra on the till, and the change is published to your public NEMENU menu within seconds. Guests scanning the QR code see the new price before the next table sits down.

If the wifi drops, nothing is lost. Edits wait in a queue on the till and go out on their own as soon as the connection is back. You can see what is waiting under Settings, Nemenu integration, Sync queue.

The import from NEMENU happens once, when you connect. After that, make menu changes on the till so the till and your public menu stay the same. Changes made directly on www.nemenu.app are not sent back to the till.

Step 3: Connect Nefin So Every Sale Books Itself

This is the part your accountant will notice. In the till's Settings, connect Nefin Bookkeeping with your Nefin account. From then on, every sale that syncs is posted to your books as a balanced journal entry, with no export, no import and no end-of-month typing.

  • Cash sales are booked to your cash account.
  • Card sales are booked to the Nefin bank account that received the money, so the takings are already waiting when you reconcile that account. Set a default under Settings, Bank accounts, or pick another one at payment.
  • Split cash and card payments are booked to both.
  • Revenue is booked to each item's sales account, and the VAT on every line is booked to VAT Output separately.
  • Refunds post a reversing entry, so your revenue and VAT go down by exactly what you gave back.
  • Closing a shift posts its own entry for pay-ins, pay-outs and any cash over or short.

Information also flows the other way. Your VAT rates, bank accounts, employees and roles come down from Nefin, and changes you make in Nefin reach the till in real time. Sales are queued on the till like menu edits, so a dropped connection never means a missing sale, and a sale that is sent twice is still only booked once.

VAT rates come from your items in Nefin. Add each dish in Nefin with its VAT rate and sales account, using the same name as on your menu, and the till links them by name. A dish with no match in Nefin is still sold and booked, but without VAT and to your default sales account.

Running Service on Nefin POS

Underneath the integrations, the till is built for a busy floor.

  • A floor plan with your tables and areas, and orders kept open on each table.
  • Cash, card or split payments, with variants and extras on every line.
  • Receipts on screen, printed through your computer's printer, or saved as a PDF, with reprints when a guest asks.
  • Refunds that always ask for a reason.
  • Shifts with an opening float, pay-ins and pay-outs, a Z-report and the cash drawer difference at close.
  • Staff and roles, with an approval PIN or admin password for the actions you want to control.
  • Offline-first: sales are saved on the till first and sync when the connection allows, so service keeps moving when the wifi does not.

What It Costs

Nefin POS is free, with no per-terminal fees, so you can run as many tills as you need. Connecting it to NEMENU works on your existing NEMENU plan. Posting sales into your books is part of Nefin's Professional plan, together with bank reconciliation, inventory and payroll; current prices are on www.nefin.app/pricing.

Getting Started Checklist

  • Publish your menu on NEMENU, with prices, variants and extras.
  • Download Nefin POS from www.nefin.app/downloads.
  • Connect to Nemenu on the welcome screen to import your menu.
  • In Nefin, add your dishes with their VAT rates and sales accounts, and the bank account card payments go to.
  • Connect Nefin Bookkeeping in the till's Settings, then choose the default account for card payments under Bank accounts.
  • Ring up a test sale and check the journal entry in Nefin.
  • From then on, change prices on the till and let NEMENU and Nefin follow.

One menu for your guests, one till for your staff and one set of books for your accountant, without anything being typed in twice.
